Festival FAQ

  • Chroma Zone began as Minnesota’s largest public mural and art festival, located in Minnesota’s first and only Creative Enterprise Zone (CEZ), Saint Paul. Local, national and international artists are selected by jury and/orinvitation to create large outdoor murals in geography of the CEZ district. Programs and events include artist talks, workshops, an exhibition, community collaborations, mural tours, and more.

Chroma Zone is a celebration of the artistry and community that leverages the power of public art to promote, connect and engage the people, places and creative economy of the Zone.

Chroma Zone is intended to establish the CEZ as a national hub of street art, and bring increased economic vitality, community dialogue, and beauty to this neighborhood and the businesses and residences that encompass it. We attract and support creative people and businesses to #MakeItHere!

  • Chroma Zone Mural & Art Festival is located in geography of the Creative Enterprise Zone (South Saint Anthony Park), and produced by the Creative Enterprise Zone nonprofit organization (creativeenterprisezone.org) The festival’s creative consultant and founding partner is Forecast Public Art, a Minnesota-based arts leader for over 40 years (forecastpublicart.org)

  • The CEZ is a supportive coalition of organizations, businesses, and individuals working together to make its fast changing mid-city neighborhood a sustained destination for creative businesses.

The CEZ promotes and connects individuals and organizations to advance creative, economic, and cultural development. Located at the second largest employment center in St. Paul, the CEZ leads a global movement to support cultural hubs where creative enterprises, industries, artists, nonprofits, and its residents flourish.

Located mid-city between downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis, the CEZ is home to over 300 studios, creative and maker places of work

  • The Creative Enterprise Zone is a creative and cultural corridor with an abundance of building stock and walls. Public art has the power to transform, beautify, and engage the unique and vibrant local creative community. Large-scale public murals support the CEZ’s goals of building the long-term vitality of the neighborhood by celebrating artists, attracting visitors, and promoting local businesses.

With Chroma Zone, the CEZ joins an exciting, growing global movement around modern muralism and mural festivals like Crush Walls in Denver, Pow Wow Hawaii, and the Festival MURAL in Montreal.

The CEZ is committed to public art to advance creative, cultural, and economic development through clustering, collaboration and connectivity. We strive toward these goals:

    1. To contribute to the long-term beauty, economic vitality, safety and walkability of the CEZ
